About the Festival

The 4th edition of the VilaNova Chamber Music Festival will take place in Monchique over three consecutive Saturdays—22 November, 29 November, and 6 December—across three historic venues: Igreja Matriz, Igreja de São Sebastião, and Igreja do Senhor dos Passos. All concerts begin at 16h00 and admission is free, welcoming classical music enthusiasts as both performers and audience members. The event is organised by the Monchique Parish Council, with the support of the Municipality, and features the Artistic Direction of Svetlana Bakushina.

22 November | 16h00 – Igreja Matriz de Monchique
Flute and Clarinet Concert performed by Salomé Matias (flute) and Tiago Santos (clarinet).

29 November | 16h00 – Igreja de São Sebastião, Monchique
A unique presentation for Cello, Double Bass, and Harpsichord featuring Seibas Gamboa (cello), Bruno Vítor (double bass), and Svetlana Bakushina (harpsichord).

6 December | 16h00 – Igreja do Senhor dos Passos, Monchique
Classical Guitar Duo Concert performed by Juan León and Beatriz Savkevych.

Open Stage Musical Afternoon
The festival also includes an Open Stage Musical Afternoon on 13 December at 16h00, held at the Monchique Parish Council Conference Hall (Sala de Conferências da Junta de Freguesia de Monchique). This moment invites all interested participants—amateurs, students, or professionals, playing any instrument—to perform a classical piece. Participation and attendance are free.
